Hi,

I am a computer programmer and would like to start automating my home with Insteon products. I would like to do so from my home computer. Thus, I am looking for a USB, serial, or wifi connected device that has a good API for C# or Java programming. I could use someone else's program, but this is a project that I want to the coding on.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Regards,

Robby

Take a look at the ISY by Universal Devices. It handles all the proprietary bits necessary to build and manage Insteon scenes, to test communications, to configure common and obscure device properties, and to integrate user programs with web-based data like area weather, light levels, and utility company Flex Alerts. It provides a REST interface so you can control devices and scenes with your own code, and it'll continue to work 24/7 even after you shut your own code and computer down overnight or to do updates or maintenance.

The ISY gives you the benefit of handling a lot of the hard work for you, and then also letting you do development using its REST interface.

If you want to get lower level, there are no APIs, you have to do the development yourself to handle the serial interface for the PLM. I have notes on my site: http://www.madreporite.com/insteon/insteon.html It's more focused on VB but a lot of the underlying info is still applicable.
