I installed Control4 automation for our home theater about an year back through a dealer. I realized the limitation on who can make changes and the number of devices very soon. I could have taken the time to look whats in the market thats more DIY oriented and could have invested time myself. Its never late. I have a decent AV understanding with some basic electrical knowledge.

Are there other devices out there that I can purchase on my own to control my audio, video devices and lighting equipment as a group or individual device? Looking more to control via my smart phone or other tablet devices.

Any suggestion and ideas will help.

If your AV is controlled by IR (nearly all are), then you can use Insteon devices to control both your AV system and lighting.

A low cost introduction to HA being controlled via a smartphone is an Insteon Hub. A more costly, but significantly more sophisticated route is to use an ISY and MobiLinc.
