“Hey guys!

I’ve set myself a budget of $250 for my first Wifi thermostat and am still not sure which one to get.

I am considering the Nest Learning Thermostat, 3rd Generation or the ecobee3 Smarter Wi-Fi Thermostat.

Does anyone here actually own either of these? What are your experiences?

Thank you so much for the help in advance

Shawn

I would go with ecobee3. If you can wait for a few days and don't need the extra sensor. You can save some money and go with ecobee3 lite or honeywell lyric t5. They are coming out in a week and they cost $150 range.

Having tried both Nest and Ecobee, I would go with Ecobee. The multiple sensor feature of the ecobee is what sold me on it. Its been very reliable for over a year now. A warning that both Nest and Ecobee don't support Carriers Multistage High Efficiency HVAC systems.

I use Breez Smart thermostat it cost me $99. just set it up with my existing ductless hardly took me 5 mins to sort everything out and i was in control. I also checked which brands they were compatible with and almost all brands were there. you can get it here:

Ecobee 3 Smarter Wi-Fi Thermostat is best thermostat for large house.
Nest 3 is very easy to use - It allows the device to learn from your everyday habits.

I agree, the Ecobee 3 is the best most reasonably priced smart thermostat on the market today based on three criteria: compatibility with the most smart device ecosystems (homekit, smartthings, etc), compatibility with the most HVAC units and user friendliness. The ecobee4 is out now but unless you need an Amazon Alexa access point the ecobee3 is the better bargain. The Honeywell Lyric and nest thermostats deserve an honorable mention as well.

If you have a low voltage heating system, I would definitely recommend ecobee or Nest. A smart thermostat may cost more than a regular Wi-Fi thermostat, but you'll see a better return in your savings.

If you have a high voltage heating system, then you should get a Mysa Smart Thermostat. You can check out the website at https://getmysa.com
