We run a 10,000 sf community hall with $30,000 heating costs. We are looking for a programmable thermostat that is based on a monthly calendar interface. The events change and are advertised every month. Sometimes the hall is empty, sometimes there are events at lunch time and during the evening.

If your events change monthly and it appears that they do, then you'll, obviously, have to attend to your calendar every month.

There is no thermostat that allows that. There is hardware plus software that allow you to do that, but that may be a costly solution just to control a thermostat and still requires that you put an effort in each month.

My suggestion is to install a WiFi thermostat such as the Ecobee. That will allow you to control your HVAC on-the-fly from a smartphone, table and/or computer.

A disadvantage is that you'll need to do that each day of the event (the thermostat can be turned off during non-events).

The main advantage is, that once you're familiar with the thermostat's app, it takes only a few minutes, maybe even less

The monthly job of entering all the events would not be a big deal since the schedule has to be done anyways while daily thermostat management would be a hassle. You mention a hardware/software combination that can do the monthly cycle. Can you mention a product name ?
