Posted - 08/10/2019 : 08:41:51 AM I am looking for some ideas for wire-in dimmer with remote. The dimmer will not be visible. Either go into junction box or in ceiling nearby. I am driving a 50W halogen light. It has a WAC transformer.
Not sure about code compliance if it doesn't fit into junction box.
I know there is also the Insteon micro module. Might be $ overkill for this as I woudl need to buy remote as well.

Posted - 08/20/2019 : 2:36:39 PM never mind. I added the device without removing it from HL. I did the trick. All is well now. Also resolved an issue with a toggle switch. @SeanM: many thanks to point the new file. I thought I had the latest.

Posted - 08/20/2019 : 2:17:10 PM Actually not. I had 2.9.84 and not the latest 2.9.87.
Re-adding the device is a bit a pain as I have it already installed in the ceiling. IS there a way to edit the settings xml?

Posted - 08/20/2019 : 09:35:55 AM It is along shot but have you tried updating the definitions file in houselinc in the last year or so? It might fix the micro module issue in houselinc:
Posted - 08/19/2019 : 4:23:55 PM I installed the micro dimmer and my light appears to work well. Only downfall is that my HouseLinc doesn't recognize the micro dimmer.

Posted - 08/16/2019 : 4:11:03 PM Dual-band devices are all mesh network repeaters. The Insteon Micro Module will repeat and respond to signals it receives on either Rf or power line band and will transmit signals on both bands.
It’ll only ‘leak’ if you fill it with water!

Posted - 08/16/2019 : 3:55:20 PM I will give the Insteon a try.
BTW. Does this dimmer "leak" noise on the supply side? It is installed on same phase, close to smoke detector.

Posted - 08/14/2019 : 04:30:58 AM The rc6000R instruction sheet. Indicates it is for incandescent loads. Not specified but it is probably a Forward Phase Control.
WAC is probably covering all bases by saying ELV dimmers. It may work fine on a Forward Phase Control module like the RC6000R and not others. That way if it does not work. They have an answer to why it does not work.

Posted - 08/13/2019 : 4:40:33 PM My old dimmer is at least 10 years old. Actually, I see a QC label 05. So, maybe 2005
The ones for incandescent loads are Forward Phase Control. Turned On after the AC wave starts to go from the Zero Crossing. Probably a triac control. That once turned On will not turn Off until the voltage is below its holding voltage.
The ELV is Reverse Phase Control. On at Zero Crossing and then is turned Off during the AC wave after it has started. Not a triac as it has to be turned off during the AC cycle.
I will look at your links.
Have you looked at the original dimmers part number? Maybe it is not an ELV.
I suspect Smarthome is covering their bases. By saying Incandescent Only. Some devices that are not incandescent maybe fine on their dimmers but if not. We told you so.
I wonder how the dimmer circuit differs between Insteon and above?

Posted - 08/11/2019 : 3:41:21 PM The information sheet on the EN-1260-R-AR indicates it can be dimmed with an electronic low voltage dimmer. You could be right as I believe they are of a different output design.

Posted - 08/11/2019 : 06:44:02 AM I have a WAC transformer that was on a dimmer for several years (not Insteon). I believe it is: EN-1260-R-AR http://www.wac[ restricted ]/product/electronic-remote-transformerIt drives a 50W 12V halogen light
Looks like the Insteon is rated for Incandescent only. Which woudl limit its use today :-)

Posted - 08/11/2019 : 04:31:17 AM The SkyLink transmitters indicate they use a CR-2032 Lithium Cell. They may last longer than the charge for a Mini Remotes rechargeable Lithium battery.
The Insteon micro dimmer. May fit in the box you indicated. Hard to say.
Your LED's transformer is rated to be on a dimmer?
The micro dimmer may not like the transformer. Probably an in use test would show any issues.
Posted - 08/10/2019 : 3:23:27 PM The Skylink Transmitters you linked to. Are the ones that should control the MD318 dimmer module. They also make a MR318 if you wanted to have a relay On and Off only.
I missed the size satisfactions. Glad you found it.
Both sites have a size diagram you may want to look at. For a fit into an electrical box.

Posted - 08/10/2019 : 11:23:12 AM If you go with the Skylink module. You will have to buy a remote to control it. The manual for it does not show a remote in the modules package. They may have a kit with a different part number. It can also be a dimmer by changing a setup parameter. Not too sure even at On and Off the WAC transformer will be OK with it.
The Torchstar web site did not have a downloadable installation guide but the web photos show it is fairly easy to install and it is strictly On and Off.
Ether one needs the Line Neutral and Load connection in the electrical box it is installed in.
