Posted - 03/04/2014 : 1:06:53 PM Have a system where the wired phones ring when the doorbell is pushed. No longer use the phones and want to get rid of them.
Is there something that plugs into the phone jacks that just ring?
Posted - 03/05/2014 : 3:26:00 PM I wonder why Insteon does not make some kind of noise generator. It would plug into a wall outlet, be dual-band and generate sounds. Sounds would be determined by other insteon products and/or programming thru ISY or the HUB. Seems like it would be a very popular item. Could use it for testing programs, response to inputs (siren when leak detector goes off, door ring when doorbell is rung, etc.).

Posted - 03/05/2014 : 1:53:50 PM Guess I should have been more specific. I want to take the phone off the wall and replace with something that takes its place. It would hang on the "nailheads" and the cord would plug in under it.
I have considered the Elk system and will probably get it. Would need to get some kind of sound response, though having lights flash would be a bonus. Does this unit work with the Insteon system by itself using ISY?
Posted - 03/05/2014 : 09:34:11 AM It's been years since I've seen one, but there are (were) "ringer-only" boxes you could wire into the phone circuit. Dad had one in the shop in the garage. It was just a bell that followed the ring pattern of the indoor phones. Had a separate power supply too, as the bell was quite loud and needed more wattage than the phone line could deliver. At the time you had to buy them directly from the telco (in the "Bell Monopoly" days), but those rules were repealed long ago. I'd check with a local builder to see what's available these days.
