The biggest benefit programmable thermostats offer is the cost savings. Energy bills continue to rise in all parts of the world, and the best way to combat this is to try to reduce your energy usage.

You've heard of The Pebble Wi-Fi controller?

There are many reasons as to "why" one would need to control their thermostat from anywhere. One could be to check to see if it was turned back so that the hvac isnt used as often as it would be if someone was home. To prepare the house for your return as the weather when you left could be different upon your return. For colder climates, maybe the temperature drops unexpectedly while you are gone so you may want to run things a little more. Vacation homes etc. Anything can be hacked. To act like there is zero security to any name brand thermostat is misleading. With that said, security starts with the router (making sure that is secured) as well as setting a user name and password. Will that stop a dedicated and skilled hacker? Of course not. However, that hacker is probably looking at a bigger fish to fry where there can be more reward for their efforts.

In my opinion, one of the biggest benefits of the smart thermostats is that they integrate well with smart-home systems and hubs. I would say that Ecobee has done more than Nest when it comes to this area and here you can check the compatibility of their currently-available models.

Well they are good for saving energy because they tell you what your energy bill might be and they save energy. They can also be controlled from almost anywhere as long as your smart phone and thermostat are connected to the wifi. Only the best smart thermostats have Alexa compatibility or other special features. If you want the best smart thermostat than check out this article. https://tekchamps.com/best-smart-thermostats-alexa-compatible-google-home/

All modern programmable thermostats provide:
* Energy Efficiency
* Cost Effectiveness
* Environment Protection
* Convenience

Non-WiFi home automation thermostats provide:
* Energy Efficiency
* Cost Effectiveness
* Environment Protection
* Convenience

Depending on the particular home automation setup and all WiFi thermostats add:
* Autonomy to control from anywhere, anytime

No thermostat has:
* Compatibility with all brands

Not all WiFi thermostats have:
* Compatibility with Amazon Echo
