Greetings:

Does anyone knows an intercom system that when somebody push the button it rings a phone inside my condo but also rings my smartphone allowing to answer the ring and open the gate from the phone for people inside the apartment but also allows me to answer and open the gate when Im not a home.

Thank you.

We use a Doorbell Fon which allows us to speak to and, optionally, buzz in anyone who rings the doorbell using our landline.

An accessory outbound relay triggers an I/O Linc when someone presses the doorbell. It is also used in conjunction with an inbound relay operated by a KeypadLinc button to control the gate lock/buzzer.

From there, all that is needed is internet access to our Insteon network to both receive a text and operate the lock. We also have a camera facing the gate.

No. The Doorbell Fon communicates only with a landline. You would need to change the door box. The accessory relays can interface with Insteon devices and apps (both Android and iOS) are available for Insteon devices with the appropriate hardware.

Hi there,

I was just about to ask a very similar question and would like to see whether there are any news about this topic.

I've just found monkey on Kickstarter, it's a chip you install into your intercom phone to remote control your door.

Now I'm wondering if I should pre-order it - the idea itself sounds pretty simple, so I would assume similar systems are already on the market?

Thanks guys for your advice.

I had one in my house that worked, but not very well - volume control was iffy at best and the audio was so inconsistent it was easier to just yell most of the time.

I've been ripping out the consoles and putting sheetrock up in their place as each room gets new paint. The wiring is atrocious unshielded untwisted pair with dubious quality.

The rooms we spend all our time in have either a computer or fully-connected TV (with a roku, tivo, or similar) - so Pandora or something equivalent can provide music without screaming used-car ads interrupting things. Security/automation systems are changing month by month today, reluctant to invest too much in any one of them right now.

I thought hard about trying to re-use them, but they were not exactly pretty, mounted in places where they didn't add anything to the look, and ... between bluetooth, wifi, and zigbee/zwave, they're just kind of an anachronism.

The front door cam is the one thing i wish i had a better fix for.
