 DVR IN BASEMENT, need help!

recently bought new house, previous owner had in wall/ ceiling surround sound and HDMI hook up wired to the utility room in the lowest level of the house. I need suggestions on a remote that will control the following from the next level up in the house : receiver, cable box and blue-ray

Also logitech Harmony remotes. Not sure what your distance is exactly but I would think it would work through the floor.

I like those harmony hub remotes. Place the harmony hub close to your audio and video stuff, connect it to you wifi network, and you can control it from anywhere you can connect to your network using an app on your phone or tablet. Included also is a handheld remote that speaks directly to the hub via radio waves. It may, itself, be sufficient for your needs.
