I have a dehumidifier running in the garage at my house at the beach to cut down on mildew and i want to try to add a switch to disable power to the outlet its plugged into any time the garage door is open. The door actually seals very well and the dehumidifier works quite well as long as the door is closed. Its just a home automation task I have been looking at and was wondering if there is anything i can add turnkey or do i have to design and manufacture it myself.

At a minimum, you'll need a controllable outlet, such as the Insteon Outlet and something to send a signal to the outlet based on the position of the garage door (i.e., open or closed).

An Insteon garage door kit can send the required signal.

An Insteon Hub will give you smartphone control and form the basis for home automation.
