I noticed another thread here mentions that Windows 8 recognizes the incompatibility during installation and offers to fix it via an OS compatibility setting. Your path of least resistance may be moving to a PC that shipped with Win 8 or was upgraded to Win 10.
If you backed it up with the Smarthome Manager Plus Version. It may have features, that are not supported in the Smarthome Manager Essentials program. I would second your thoughts on restoring to a Smarthome Manager Plus version.
