We are planning a project in our company. It is to undergo facility optimization. This will include goals to conserve energy and water and in order to achieve this fully is to make changes too. Any thoughts on what type of changes that we can implement to improve and save money? |

Do you want to conserve energy or save money? Is there a difference between the two in your mind? With energy, are you concerned with total life cycle savings (including production and disposal) or just energy consumed directly by your facility? With energy, do you care about reducing all energy use, or only energy use from certain sources (such as coal or nuclear). Do you have any concerns about environmental impact from mining or disposal of certain materials?
Some folks try to "conserve energy" in an attempt to save the planet. I cannot help but be concerned that efforts to do so might be misguided in some cases, when total environmental impact is considered. How do you feel, for example, about cutting down rain forest to grow corn to turn into ethanol? |

Not necessarily. If you don't do your homework, you may not save either. Like oberkc asked, "...do you want to conserve energy or money?". If you don't know where you're going you'll never get there. |

I agree that you should try to include solar panels so that office gets powered by them and you reduce the emissions as far as possible. However, I know that it isn't feasible to set solar panels in all areas and also price is a major factor. In that case, you should look to reduce the electricity usage to the least you can. You can get power monitoring device like Ohm Assistant to monitor the power usage by individual appliances and if some/ any of them causes a spike in usage. You can replace these devices with more efficient ones. |

I'm no expert on the energy part, but there are several ways to save water I can recommend: -Install quick flushing toilets that use only a fraction of what usual toilets need -Set up rainwater collectors for said toilets, as you don't need clean drinking water for that. Do you use water in your activity, or is it just used by the employees when they drink, wash their hands etc? |

Not really. On the off chance that you don't get your work done, you may not spare either. Like oberkc asked, "...do you need to monitor vitality or cash?". On the off chance that you don't have the foggiest idea where you're going you'll never arrive. |

Saving energy at home is not as simple as it may seem. Many of us constantly have vampire devices plucked in like our cell phone charger or oven. Which even when not in use suck on electricity. I attempted for 3 months to do things my way and reduce my electrical usage but I failed miserably. Until a friend told me about this device called OHM Assistant - an energy monitoring device that surveils all the home appliances. Additionally, to make my life simpler, it even notifies me on my phone which device is consuming more energy than usual and if any device isn't being used. This device is truly a power-saving device that has significantly reduced my electricity bill as well.

To conserve energy, invest on solar panels - this will save energy cost in the long term. And yes have an OHM Assistant to monitor electric usage. To conserve water, use recycled water in water closet, have rain barrels installed too.
