My heated garage contains my boiler for domestic hot water and radiant floor heat. I currently keep the thermostat at 45 F, but I’m running through about $600 a month in propane and am getting desperate to start cutting expenses. I live in interior alaska where winter temps hover in the -20s. Would I be taking a risk of freezing pipes by turning the thermostat to 40 or 35? Thank you.

You need to keep the water circulating, but what's the lowest boiler temperature to prevent freezing at some distant end depends on, among others, the outside temperature. You pretty well need some trial and error while taking no risk of freezing the pipes.
