I already have several google homes and smart thermostat in my house and want to start replacing lights with smart lights. The cost has always put me off of doing it but I want to at least start and maybe slowly build up my collection.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for smart lights? Right now Best Buy has 20% off all Philips hue products and it seems like a good start. I could get the Hue hub and 12 white lights for around $160. Is this a good deal? Should I use smart switches instead of bulbs? How do you feel about RGB lights?

How do you handle rooms that have 4 bulb fans or a dining room with 6 bulbs in the light fixture? Do you just use 6 smart bulbs in the fixture or is it better to use a smart switch for that room?

I have been happy with hue lights, but don't use any of the bulbs. I prefer to maintain control of the lighting via switches, rather than relying completely on a phone or tablet. For that reason, I prefer switches rather than smart bulbs. Your example with a fan is another reason to go with switches.

I also like some color lighting, but use it only for accents or washes. None of my primary light fixtures use color bulbs.
