Hi - I have read that that Hub 2242-222 has a limit of 400 links/scenes. Does that mean I could have 100 devices (switches, dimmers, I/O links, sensors, etc.) and 300 scenes (which could contain some of all of the devices in each scene)? Or am I misreading that?

Thanks!

Theoretically yes... Realistically no....you might get about 200-250 combined. Once everything is added to the Hub that is at least 1 link per device....some devices like dimmers or thermostats will eat up two spots because of what they can do.

So if I create a scene in HouseLinc or in the iOS app that has 50 switches that all turn off, is that considered 1 link/scene or 50 links for purposes of counting the 400 links/scenes available in the hub? Thanks!

I am no expert, but i would imagine that there is at least one link per device added to the hub. I dont believe, however, that the creation of the scene would consume an additional 50 links...probably closer to 1 additional link.

Scenes use group numbers as opposed to ID of each device connected to it. That's why Insteon can turn On/Off lots of devices at one time as opposed to that popcorn effect. That being said the group number is still stored in the link table of the device that needs to respond to it.

If you really want to learn about the Insteon protocol you can go here: http://cache.insteon.com/developer/2242-222dev-062013-en.pdf

Thanks. So if there is a 400 link/scene limit on the hub, does that practically mean I could run 150 devices and 100 scenes comfortably?

It depends on the level of complexity of the scenes. Personally, and I'm sure others will chime in here :) , with that many devices I would recommend using an ISY-994i controller.

Thanks Sean. I am integrating into Control4, so that will be my main controller, but the integration works best when you use either the 2413S PLM modem or the original Hub to build any Insteon scenes in HouseLinc and have the C4 controller trigger the Insteon scene. The 2413S has 1,000 link/scene limit, but the Hub only has 400. So I'm trying to figure out if the hub will work, or if I will be pushing its limits and I should just use the 2413S. I like the hub since I don't need to physically disconnect it from C4 controller to make changes and I can place the hub near the breaker box or wiring closet, but if I am going to run into realistic limits, I prefer to just use the modem from the beginning.

You're better off using the plm and having the extra links. As stated earlier, with 150 devices, you'll most likely push against the max. Keep in mind, the more you fill up your plm, the more likely you'll run into issues.
