I'm building a second-floor deck; And code requires a stairway to ground-level. Most of the the entry-points to the home are from the deck.

I'm concerned about the easy-access the stairs create to the living-space.

Suggestions on how to secure the stairs/stairway

You can put the Infrared fence at the first floor, the thief can't fly to the second floor directly. The infrared fence can give you the alarm in time.

The easiest and most reliable solution for you would be to install a wireless home system. Sensors can be located throughout the entire space of your home, as well as on the stairs when you try to break in, you will hear an alarm, and a notification will also come to your phone.
