Hi - looking for a way to monitor temperature and humidity and trigger scene. Thought I might be able to use this thermostat but of course it needs power (24V DC?). Is there a way to power this thing without it hooking to my heating system and controlling it?

Or alternative? I can use an IP based gadget and write a little app to read it.

Open to suggestions.

Bill

Not sure about your tstat. But mine (a venstar) requires 24V AC. I had wanted to test it out a bit before actual install and thought I might be able to cobble something together with a 24V DC power brick. Thankfully, I triple-checked and saw it needed AC. I ended up just installing the thing. So be careful.

It is 24VAC.

You can connect it to the 2441TH Terminals 24V Common and 24RH. Not too sure how much data you can get from it. What controller are you using to access it.

The Venstar two wire heat only controller. To supply the needed 24VAC. Sold by Smarthome has a small 24VAC wall wart in it.

Thanks did not mean to confuse. My Venstar is installed and working. Still trying to iron out some technical issues related to AUX heat. But it works fine. I was just trying to let the O.P. know that his might not be 24vdc.
