This is going to depend on what and how you are looking to secure your home. Some people want to handle it themselves while some people want a service to handle everything.
Some other things you might consider are a lot of the newer DIY systems on the market are cloud based so if you have internet issues the system may not be suited for you. The size of the house will also be a factor. If its large and everything needs to be wired you will have a lot a labor if you hire a service. Are cameras a part of your expected solution?
Once you have an idea of what you are looking for its much easier for the group to provide a recommendation.
What's your budget? First of all, it depends on this. There are different types of alarm systems. The more money you are willing to pay for it, the more secure your property will be. I have an alarm system when entering my lawn and backyard. Also in the house there are alarms that let you know about breaking the door or breaking Windows, also monitor the movement in the house at night.
